The Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences (QAEHS) is a multidisciplinary research Centre committed to world-class research across the environment health sciences. These include environmental toxicology, epidemiology, microbiology, health risk assessment and communication, and state-of-the art monitoring and analytical technologies to quantify emerging environmental health risks.

QAEHS is funded by Queensland Health and The University of Queensland and works closely with Queensland Health to develop the Centre’s research directions. QAEHS pursues research excellence through competitively funded research, as well as government and industry consultancies, and has a successful track record in interdisciplinary collaborative research with international and other Australian institutions.

About This Opportunity
In this position, you will support the research activities and related consultancy projects within the Emerging Environmental Health Risks group, through the provision of analytical, technical and administrative support. Key responsibilities will include:

Analysing samples using Liquid/Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry.
Undertaking routine maintenance of the LC-MS and GC-MS instrumentation.
Contributing to the development of both standard operating procedures and new analytical methods.
Preparing and maintaining stocks of native and labelled chemical standards and mixtures, in line with WHS practices.
Evaluating and interpreting analytical results.
Participating in the writing of publications, scientific reports, and other technical documents.
This position is located at the QAEHS Centre/Pharmacy Centre of Excellence at Woolloongabba, adjacent to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Our Ideal Candidate
Undergraduate degree in a relevant area (e.g. analytical chemistry and/or organic chemistry).
Understanding of the application of laboratory analytical instruments for trace analysis.
Understanding of analysis and quantification of organic chemicals in complex matrices for a wide variety of compounds.
Strong laboratory and/or analytical skills, with an emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to accurately interpret and follow methods and protocols.
Above all else, we are looking for someone with initiative, enthusiasm, and who is wanting to start their career in analytics.

It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases. You must also have ongoing unrestricted work rights in Australia to apply for this opportunity.

What We Can Offer
This is a full-time, fixed term position for 2 years at HEW level 5.

The base salary will be in the range $67,608 - $75,506, plus super of up to 17%. The total package will be in the range $79,101 - $88,342.
